How to Stay Healthy In This COVID-19 Pandemic

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread across the whole world and it is getting difficult for governments around the world to contain and destroy it completely. The governments are trying to protect the people by quarantining them to their houses. It is still important for people to know how to protect themselves and their families.

Below are some steps that an individual need to follow in daily life to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Healthy Measure to be taken:

  1. You need to wash your hands with soap or hand wash liquid for at least 20 seconds after you have gone to a public place, or sneezing, coughing or blowing your nose.
  2. Don’t touch your mouth, eyes, nose with unwashed hands.
  3. Try to avoid close contact with people who are sick. There are people with no symptoms who might be able to spread the virus.
  4. Stay at home as much as possible and travel only when it’s essential.
  5. Practice social distancing and keep 6 feet between each other and keep distance when you go out in public.
  6. Connect with your loved ones through phone calls or video calls.
  7. Cover your mouth with mask or cloth face cover when you go out in public places like grocery stores. This will protect others if you are infected.
  8. Whenever you cough or sneeze use tissue paper to cover your nose and mouth and throw off the tissue paper in a trash can. If the tissues are not available to use your elbow instead of your hands and wash your hands immediately.
  9. Clean the surfaces you touch daily it includes doorknobs, tables, light switches, handles, phones, desk, keyboards, sinks, toilets, and countertops.

People who are at higher risk

The initial information was that people who come into the older generation (60 above) who live in a nursing home or long-term care facility and people with the following conditions are at higher risk at any age.

  • People who have a serious medical condition and if they are not very well controlled, like heart, lung, or liver disease or if a person has diabetes or they have severe asthma, chronic kidney disease, and are undergoing dialysis.
  • People who have a weak immune system like people who are undergoing cancer treatment, smoking, and having diseases that compromise immune conditions.

If you have a higher risk from COVID-19 because of your serious illness, it is important for you to:

  1. Stay at home quarantined as much as possible follow the step mentioned above and avoid travel, and only travel when it’s very essential.
  2. If you have concerns, you should call your health care provider you need to ask for extra medications in case you have to be quarantined for a long period.
  3. If you feel like you are having COVID-19 symptoms starts you need to call a medical professional if you are at higher risk.

If you are sick

The symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, shortness of breath, and cough. You need to keep track of your symptoms that have an appearance period of 14 days after exposure, and you need a call to seek medical attention if your symptoms get worse and you feel difficulty in breathing.

Mild Illness

A lot of people have mild Illness and they can stay at home to recover. If you think you are sick need to follow these following steps:

  1. You should stay at home and should call your doctor before going to the hospital. People who are old and people who have a serious medical condition you must call a health care provider as soon as symptoms start.
  2. Stay quarantined avoid personal contact with anyone.
  3. Stop sharing personal household items like plates and glass and wash them thoroughly after using them.
  4. Keep the regularly used surfaces clean and use disinfect to keep your house clean and safe.
  5. Cover your face with a mask or cloth covering face if you are around people.

Symptoms

  • Trouble breathing
  • Continuous pain and pressure in the chest
  • New confusion or inability to arouse
  • If face or lips turn bluish
